HORNSBY RETIREMENT VILLAGE MASTER PLAN

“The aim of Christophorus House Retirement Village (CHRV) is to prepare residents to be able to fulfil their destiny in life and develop the courage and trust to die; to do both with dignity”.

The project includes 30 additional independent living units, doubling the capacity of the existing high care hostel and a central community centre to serve as the heart of the Village, complete with a cafe and chapel.

Geothe’s notion of ‘Wahlverwandtschaft’ (Elective Affinity) can best be employed through layering public and private space throughout the Village. Similarly, we see the Village as a combination of open areas and darker dappled or solid shade.

The Village is designed to open up to Mildred Avenue with through site links to bring in the spirit of community and inclusion. We focus on small-scale and cosy, green environments that encourage us to take a deeper breath of air and a walk.

Our landscaping design embraces the exceptional mature turpentine trees - the village's oldest residents. Additional planting introduces seasonal variation. An urban habitat of native birds can be encouraged by introducing flowering plants.
